Alonso Is the Right Choice for Chelsea – Leboeuf

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has praised the appointment of Xabi Alonso as the club’s new manager, describing him as the perfect choice and the authoritative leader Chelsea has long needed.

In a conversation with Tribal Football, Leboeuf said Alonso brings the tactical intelligence and presence that the Stamford Bridge dressing room has lacked.

He expressed great satisfaction that the club has secured a coach of Alonso’s calibre.

“Yes and yes, he’s a great player. He used to be a great player, and he knows football. What he did for Bayer Leverkusen was simply amazing because he had the control and the people in the board allowed him to do whatever he wanted.

And he did it with cleverness and the guy is one of the smartest coaches like Pep Guardiola. If Chelsea wants to achieve something, they have to change their mindset. They cannot be in control of the pitch, but they can be in control of the finances and everything going on in the office.”

“But when it’s about the field, Xabi Alonso should be the only one in charge, and hopefully they’ll understand that. I’m very pleased that they picked Xabi Alonso. Congratulations to them, good call, I’m pretty sure Xabi Alonso will do very well if he has the control.”

Leboeuf made 144 appearances for Chelsea, winning two FA Cups, one League Cup, one Cup Winners’ Cup and one UEFA Super Cup. His Premier League years were the peak of his career, and he remains deeply fond of the club he helped to so much success.
