Algeria defeats Jordan 2-1 in World Cup group match

Algeria came from behind to defeat Jordan 2-1 in a Group J match on Monday, eliminating the Asian debutants from the tournament.

Amine Gouiri levelled the score after Nizar al‑Rashdan’s opening goal, and Nadhir Benbouali netted the winner in the 82nd minute in Santa Clara.

The victory keeps Algeria’s chances of reaching the knockout stage alive, provided they defeat Austria in Kansas City on Saturday.

Austria fell 2-0 to Argentina earlier on Monday, leaving the South Americans at the top of Group J with six points.

Both Austria and Algeria now have three points.

Jordan will face Argentina in Arlington, Texas on Saturday in their final match of the tournament.
