ADC to President Tinubusays NSA Ribadu should be replaced if confidence in him is lacking.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), urged President Bola Tinubu to replace National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu if the president doubts his capacity to address Nigeria’s security challenges.

Abdullahi’s comment came in response to President Tinubu’s appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.

Tinubu said the appointment was intended to acknowledge Fadewa’s distinguished service record, strategic expertise, and significant contributions to Nigeria’s national security framework.

Abdullahi responded that the term “homeland” is more appropriate for countries such as the United States, Germany, Israel or Palestine.

In a post on X, he argued that the portfolio has little relevance for Nigeria.

He wrote: “President Tinubu has just appointed a Major General as ‘Special Adviser on Homeland Security.’

“The term ‘homeland’ is ideological and historically rooted. It makes sense in contexts like the United States, Germany, Israel or Palestine. In Nigeria, it is largely meaningless.

“If the President no longer has confidence in his National Security Adviser, he should simply replace him, not create a new office with a copycat title.”
