ADC Chief Calls on Judiciary to Stay Neutral Amid Leadership Dispute

A senior member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim Ismael, has voiced concerns about the party’s ongoing leadership dispute.

Speaking with journalists in Lafia on Wednesday, Ismael called on the judiciary to stay impartial when handling cases related to the party’s internal affairs.

He said that the faction of the ADC leadership aligned with former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola believes its position is backed by existing legal precedents on internal party democracy.

Ismael argued that disputes over the internal administration of political parties should be resolved in accordance with the relevant provisions of the law and established judicial decisions.

“We are concerned about developments surrounding the ADC leadership dispute and believe that all matters before the courts should be determined strictly in accordance with the law,” he said.

He maintained that the party was confident in its legal position, urging the judiciary to ensure that all matters relating to the leadership dispute are decided strictly in accordance with due process.

“The Supreme Court has spoken, and we are confident that the issues before the court will be resolved based on legal principles and due process,” he stated.

He further called on judicial authorities to ensure that justice is done and seen to be done in all matters before the courts.

“We urge the court to remain guided by the law and ensure that justice is done and seen to be done,” he added.

The ADC chieftain also expressed concern about the state of opposition politics in the country, stressing the importance of preserving democratic values and political plurality.

“Opposition parties remain an important part of Nigeria’s democratic process and should be allowed to operate freely within the law,” he said.

He called on all stakeholders to safeguard democratic institutions and strengthen public confidence in the rule of law.

“This matter goes beyond individuals; it is about strengthening democratic institutions and maintaining public confidence in the rule of law,” Ismael said.

He further urged Nigerians to support efforts aimed at protecting democracy and ensuring that the integrity of the electoral process is preserved.
