Abuja Area Council Speaker and aide die in car crash.

A fatal motor accident in Sheda village on the Abuja‑Lokoja highway has killed the Speaker of the Gwagwalada Area Council, Mohammed Ibrahim Ibwa, and his aide, Ibrahim Ibwa.

The aide died at the scene, while the Speaker was taken to Legend Hospital in Gwagwalada and later transferred to Abuja Teaching Hospital, where he died in the early hours of Thursday.

A source said the victims were involved in a head‑on collision between a Mercedes‑Benz and a Sino truck at Sheda village around 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday.

The source added that three people were in the Mercedes‑Benz with the Speaker when the crash occurred, and that the third passenger is currently receiving medical attention.

An anonymous Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official who participated in the rescue operation confirmed that one victim died on the spot, while the Speaker and another individual were taken to hospital.

The official further stated that the body was placed in the mortuary at Legend Hospital in Gwagwalada. He explained that the Speaker and his aides were returning to Gwagwalada from Kwali after a political meeting when their vehicle collided head‑on with a trailer coming from the opposite direction near Sheda village.

The Speaker’s remains were later buried in accordance with Islamic rites in his Ibwa community within the Gwagwalada Area Council.
