Abua and Etoro Crowned Champions of the CBN Senior Tennis Championship

Nigeria’s No.1 and the tournament’s top seed, Abua Cannice, defeated defending champion Michael Akpan Emmanuel 2‑0 (6‑1, 6‑2) to claim the men’s singles title at the 47th edition of the Central Bank of Nigeria Senior Tennis Championship, which concluded over the weekend in Abuja.

In the women’s singles, 18‑year‑old Etoro Bassey won 2‑1 (3‑6, 6‑0, 6‑2) over Ogunjobi Success, earning the trophy.

New champions also emerged in the doubles events. Abua Cannice teamed with Mohammed Musa to defeat the pair of Michael Akpan Emmanuel and Sylvanus Ajano in the men’s doubles. In the women’s doubles, Mohammed Khadijat and Ogunjobi Success combined to beat Etoro Bassey and James Favour 6‑2, 6‑7(2), 10‑6.

During the final, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso—represented by Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, Acting Director of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations—praise the players, officials, stakeholders and spectators for their dedication and contributions to the event’s success.

Cardoso affirmed the CBN’s commitment to the development of Nigerian youth and pledged that the apex bank will continue to sponsor the championship for the nation’s benefit.
