47th CBN Senior Tennis: Michael, Abua, Khadijat, and Others Advance to Semifinals

The 47th edition of the Central Bank of Nigeria Senior Tennis Championship is approaching its conclusion, with all semifinal matches scheduled for today at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Tennis Courts in Abuja.

In the men’s singles, top seed Abua Cannice will face Yusuf Abubakar in the first semifinal, while defending champion Emmanuel Michael, seeded third, will play unseeded Jimoh Joseph in the second semifinal. The final is set for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

For the women’s singles, top seed Mohammed Khadijat will compete against Ogunjobi Success in the first semifinal, and seed two, Emmanuel Essien Bright, will meet seed five, Bassey Itoro, in the second semifinal.

Khadijat advanced to the semifinals by defeating Godwin Favour 2‑0 (6‑0, 6‑1), while Ogunjobi Success secured her spot with a 2‑0 win over Udofia Mary (6‑2, 6‑0).

In the men’s wheelchair singles, Ajani Idowu defeated Odunuga Pelumi 2‑1 (2‑4, 5‑4, 10‑3) to move forward.

The women’s wheelchair singles draw includes defending champion Usoh Andrea and top seed Nwaozuzu Chituru, with the remaining three players scheduled to play later in the day.

The men’s and women’s doubles events are also in the semifinal stage today.

Notable pairings include John David and Jimoh Joseph, Akagha Samuel/ Uwandu Charles, and Michael Emmanuel with Sylvanus Ajano. In the men’s doubles, Abua Cannice and Mohammed Musa are the top‑seeded duo.

Top‑seeded women’s doubles teams are Ogunjobi Success and Mohammed Khadijat, who have already reached the semifinals, and second seeds Suwa Nenrot and Omotayo Blessing, among others. Other semifinalists include Udofia Mary and Bamidele Abosede, as well as Godwin Favour and Kwange Emmanuella.

Seed two, Adeleye Daniel, who had qualified for the semifinals, withdrew from the championship to compete in an international event in Italy. He left Nigeria this morning via Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.
