The presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, met with healthcare professionals and experts in the United States to discuss ways to strengthen Nigeria’s health system.

Obi announced the meeting in a statement posted on his X account on Saturday, noting that it took place on Friday, June 5, 2026.

He said the purpose of the engagement was to deepen his understanding of how successful health‑insurance systems can improve healthcare delivery, especially in primary and emergency care.

Obi highlighted that expanding health‑insurance coverage remains a key priority for him, along with strengthening primary healthcare services across Nigeria’s electoral wards, training more healthcare workers, and improving access to affordable, quality care for Nigerians.

He added that the discussions aligned with his commitment to building a healthier Nigeria through stronger and more efficient healthcare systems.

He wrote: “Building a Healthier Nigeria Through Stronger Healthcare Systems.”
