UMUAHIA — Governor Alex Otti was declared the Labour Party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Abia State after the party’s primary elections were completed across the state.

The results were announced at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia by Mrs. Opara, the National Organising Secretary of the Labour Party and the Returning Officer for the exercise. She reported that Otti received 368,230 votes in the direct primary.

Mrs. Opara stated that the primary was carried out in accordance with the party’s constitution and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In his acceptance speech after receiving his Certificate of Return, Otti described his nomination as the start of a renewed political responsibility. He urged all party candidates to collaborate for victory in the 2027 general elections and praised the peaceful and orderly conduct of the primary across the state.

The Labour Party also selected senatorial candidates: Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe for Abia South, Senator Darlington Nwokocha for Abia Central, and Chief David Ogba Onuoha for Abia North.

For the House of Representatives, the party nominated Obi Aguocha (Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South), Ginger Onwusibe (Isiala Ngwa North/South), Amobi Ogah (Isuikwuato/Umunneochi), Alex Ikwechegh (Aba North/Aba South), and Ibe Okwara Osonwa (Arochukwu/Ohafia).

Additional candidates include Chima Desmond Anyaso (Bende), Ugochukwu Adinigwe (Ukwa East/West), and Wambu Chiemela (Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo), as well as nominees for all 24 seats in the Abia State House of Assembly.

Hon. Acho Obioma, the National Secretary of the Labour Party, presented certificates of return to the successful candidates, congratulated them, and expressed confidence in the party’s prospects for the 2027 elections.

Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission, led by Prof. Sylvia Agu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Abia State, oversaw the primaries and the declaration of results.

The primaries were held in wards and local government areas before the final collation and announcement in Umuahia.
