Ghana have matched Nigeria’s record of six FIFA World Cup victories, following a 1‑0 win over Panama in their opening Group L match.
The Black Stars are now only the second African nation to achieve that number of wins at the tournament.
The triumph came after Caleb Yirenkyi scored in the 95th minute at Toronto Stadium in Canada.
Yirenkyi’s tap‑in denied Panama their first World Cup point.
The result places Ghana at the top of the group alongside England, whom they will face on Tuesday.
With six wins in 16 matches, Ghana has equaled Nigeria’s tally of six victories from 21 games.
Both teams trail Cameroon, which has five wins from 26 appearances.
