2026 Unity Cup: NPFL Must Utilise Their Chances In Eagles –Ex-International

Former Nigerian international Garba Lawal has urged players from the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) to seize the chance to represent the Super Eagles in the upcoming Unity Cup.

Coach Eric Chelle has called up seven NPFL players: Michael Atata, Obinna Igboke, Chibueze Oputa, Elias Ochobi, Aderemi Adeoye, Ayobami Junior, and Tosin Oyedokun.

Speaking with Brila FM, Lawal warned the players not to squander the opportunity to prove themselves at the senior national level.

NPFL Have Another Chance To Impress In Eagles

“This opportunity is another second chance for the NPFL players. He has gone round and he has picked some of the best players in the league.”

“I just want to appeal to them that this is their chance and they should not complain to me again. If they go there and mess up, I am a fan of them, and I was highly disappointed with the last performance they displayed at CHAN.”

“After this, I won’t talk about the home‑based Eagles again because we have been talking about the coach picking domestic league players, and he has done that now. This is their best chance to showcase their talents.”

Eagles To Defend Their Crown

The Super Eagles will defend their Unity Cup title in a four‑nation tournament that includes Zimbabwe, India, and last year’s finalist Jamaica, from May 26 to 31 in Charlton.

Nigeria will open its title defence on Tuesday, May 26, against the Warriors of Zimbabwe. The winner of that match will advance to the final to face either Jamaica or India.
